Dear Eastside Neighbor,
We hope this note finds you well. We are reaching to you directly to share an update that may impact you and your neighborhood.
As you may know, construction for the new Ofelia Valdez-Yeager Eastside Elementary School (OVYEES) is about to begin. As part of this exciting project, a cell phone tower that currently sits on the future school site will need to be moved. The tower provides essential service to the Eastside community, and we have taken great care in planning its relocation.
After considering a number of possible sites, the cell provider completed a thorough study and identified a new location on District-owned land at Lincoln High School. This location was chosen to maintain strong cell service in your area and to avoid construction delays. The new site is away from classrooms, tucked behind existing buildings, and we are working with the provider to design the tower as a faux palm tree so that it blends into the environment.
We want our role in the community to reflect both meaningful progress and honest, transparent communication. That’s why we wanted to notify you directly and make sure you had the facts before construction begins.
You’re also invited to share your thoughts at two upcoming virtual meetings taking place at 11:00 AM on August 25 and 6:00 PM on August 26, 2025.
We are committed to moving forward in ways that respect our community and prioritize communication. Thank you for your continued trust as we work to bring a beautiful new school to your neighborhood—one that generations of Eastside children will call home.
With appreciation,
Dr. Sonia Llamas
Superintendent
Riverside Unified School District
